Leeds United have engineered a dazzling start to the 2018-19 Championship season under the tutelage of their new manager Marcelo Bielsa. The Whites defeated Stoke City 3-1 in their opening fixture and hammered Derby County 4-1 on Saturday at the Pride Park Stadium.
As a result, the Yorkshire based outfit are placed at the 2nd spot in the league standings, one point behind Middlesbrough who have played one game more. Notably, Bielsa has apparently been very modest and has insisted that two wins on trot cannot guarantee promotion to his side.
Ahead of today’s Carabao Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers, he said: “If you think that we are favourites to go up, we have only played two games so far. We shouldn’t trust this kind of affirmation because we’ve played only two games. Two games are not enough to make conclusions on the team. We all know that.”
Last season, Leeds United did begin strongly under Thomas Christiansen but withered away as the season progressed. Even Paul Heckingbottom’s introduction failed to generate dividends. Eventually, they carved an unconvincing 13th-place finish and therefore, it will be crucial for the Peacocks to keep the momentum going for a serious surge for promotion this time around.
