Chelsea have confirmed the move of Tomas Kalas on loan for the rest of the season to Championship outfit Bristol City. The 25-year-old has struggled for game time with the Premier League heavyweights in recent years and has therefore inked another loan spell.
Kalas has been on the books of Chelsea since the summer of 2010 after he moved from Sigma Olomouc. Ever since then, he has plied his trade with six different clubs temporarily, including his loan spell with Premier League newcomers Fulham during the previous campaign.
He mustered 35 appearances in the English second tier last season for the Cottagers, during which he made 1.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 5 clearances and 0.5 block per game on an average. Capable of playing as a centre-back and right-back, Kalas was an instrumental figure in Fulham’s promotion to the top flight.
Despite numerous loan spells, the Czech Republican has made just two appearances for Chelsea. David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christiansen and Ethan Ampadu were ahead of him in the pecking order at his parent club and for obvious reasons, his loan move to the Ashton Gate makes a lot of sense for his further developments.
