Brighton And Middlesbrough Amongst Clubs Who Should Make A Move For English Fullback

According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Leicester City are looking to strike Danny Simpson off their books this summer. The 31-year-old is unlikely to feature in Claude Puel’s blueprint for this season and is expected to be shipped out before 9th of August.

The 31-year-old struggled with injuries during the pre-season friendlies and made his first appearance prior to the start of the new season in the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Udinese. He was not selected in the first-team squad which played against Valencia and his exit from the King Power Stadium seems inevitable.

Here are three clubs which should try to rope him into their ranks before the transfer window shuts down.

West Bromwich Albion

Darren Moore’s side are expected to challenge for a Top 6 spot this season despite falling to a shock defeat at home against Bolton in their opener. However, right-back is an area where West Bromwich Albion lack depth. They had a deal in place to sign Tom James from Yeovil Town but the player failed to agree on personal terms with the Baggies.

In such a situation, someone like Simpson could be a smart acquisition for Moore. The right-back is well accustomed to English football and will offer competition to Moore’s first-choice right-back Allan Nyom.

Middlesbrough

Just like the Throstles, their fellow promotion aspirants Middlesbrough also lack cover for their first-choice right-back Ryan Shotton. Considering that a long and tiring season lies ahead of them, it will be a wise move on their part to move for a fullback and Simpson fits the bill.

The Englishman is a modern-day fullback and is a Premier League winner. He still has some years of competitive football left in him and a chance to prolong his career with Boro will appeal to the player as well.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Bruno and Ezequiel Schelotto are the two senior right-backs Brighton can call upon now. However, the former is a 37-year-old and Hughton is unlikely to take a chance with his fitness and ability to consistently deliver over a long and demanding season. While Simpson is unlikely to get regular minutes at Falmer Stadium, he might cherish the opportunity to remain in the Premier League.

Under the tutelage of Chris Hughton, Brighton managed to find their feet in the top flight last term and the ideal scenario will be to finish higher in the points table this time around.
