Tottenham Hotspur have been quite inactive in the early part of the transfer window just like last season. However, they ended up making some quality signings eventually.
This time though, the duration of the transfer window has been shortened for English clubs and that means less than a month is left for the transfer window to officially close down.
Recent reports state that Spurs are looking to sign Juan Quintero, Colombia’s World Cup breakout star.
Spurs actually need to make some signings in order to enhance their squad so that they can compete in all competitions next season. They have some good forwards in their roster, but Tottenham need to ensure that they have a versatile, full-fledged squad for next season.
Juan Quintero was Colombia’s creator-in-chief during the World Cup, as James Rodriguez was out injured for some important matches. Quintero’s free-kick goal from below the wall against Japan will surely be one of the highlights of the tournament.
Quintero: Player Profile
Quintero essentially plays as a central attacking midfielder, someone who plays behind the striker and gets into free spaces in and around the opposition’s box to pick out good passes.
He has decent pace, but is a good distributor of the ball and has the vision to pull off out good deliveries for the onrushing strikers.
Quintero can be a threat from set pieces, as his free-kick taking technique is quite good too. He plays for River Plate in the Argentine league and played 13 matches last season, seven of them being as a substitute. He scored once and assisted twice in the league last season.
Apparently, even in the FIFA World Cup, he scored once and assisted in two goals despite playing in just four matches. Though he has the tendency to disappear from games due to general inactivity without the ball, he is equally creative with the possession of the ball too.
Should Spurs sign him?
Tottenham do need some good players to fill up their squad, but it remains to be seen whether they pursue Quintero.
There is not a lot that people know about him, and he might as well turn out to be an exciting surprise stock in the league. However, it would be a huge jump for him from the Argentine league to the Premier League, and there is always an aura of negative uncertainty whenever we analyse such rumours.
Spurs might as well go for someone more experienced in order to boost up their chances of achieving their primary targets.
