According to latest reports from Football London, Dele Alli is set to sign a new contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur. The English international has been subjected to a move out of London in the past few months but is currently on the verge of becoming the next Spurs player to sign a contract extension of Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been reportedly focusing on rewarding club’s star players with new contracts for their performances over the past 18 months. In fact, they have already extended the contract of super striker Harry Kane, who signed a five-year contract extension a few weeks ago amid interest from Real Madrid.
This was followed by the extensions of younger players such as Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks, Kyle Walker-Pieters and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Dele Alli, on the other hand, easily joins the bracket of being one of Tottenham’s best players in the past couple of seasons. Since joining the club back in 2015, Alli has made over 100 appearances in the English top flight, scoring 37 goals whilst providing 27 assists. The former MK Dons midfielder has been a crucial part of Pochettino’s success, which saw Tottenham transform into one of England’s most feared clubs at the moment.
However, the English international has been heavily linked with a move out of London this summer, with the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly vying for his signature.
Even though he still has four years remaining on his current contract, one can easily be forgiven to think that he could seek pastures new this summer, especially after failing to win any major trophy during his three-year stint Tottenham Hotspur.
Therefore, the contract extension of Dele Alli could come as a sigh of relief for head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine mastermind, who was also courted by Real Madrid this summer, is keen to build a squad that is capable of maintaining a title tile, knowing his current crop of players doesn’t have any room to further improve themselves following three successful seasons.
In addition, Dele Alli, himself, hasn’t yet shown any weaknesses in his development, following two incredible breakthrough seasons in the Premier League. On the contrary, the English international managed to rack up 14 goals and provide 17 assists last season, thus maintaining his splendid form with the Lilywhites.
At the age of 22, Dele Alli still has a lot of room to improve and if nurtured well enough, the youngster could turn out to be a huge asset for Tottenham Hotspur in the coming years.
