According to the Telegraph, RB Leipzig haven’t yet given up on their pursuit of Ademola Lookman. The German have so far been rebuffed in their attempts to sign the talented striker, with Everton unwilling to enter negotiations.
However, the source believes that Leipzig are preparing their third bid for Lookman, who is also understood to be pushing for a move to East-Germany this summer. And although the Toffees have remained stubborn in their attempts of keeping a hold of their prized asset, it’s only a matter of time before the Bundesliga outfit comes up with a lucrative offer.
Lookman, 20, spent the second half of last season on loan at Leipzig, where he was hugely successful. The former Charlton whizkid scored as many as five goals in just eleven Bundesliga outings. He also managed to provide four assists, ultimately helping Leipzig finish sixth in the league.
His short yet promising stint with Die Roten-Bullen has attracted the interest of the club’s sporting director Ralf Ragnick, who is determined to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
RBL chief Rangnick said: “Ademola Lookman is currently a player of Everton. He knows from his time with us and also through the relationships he has built up with us, our appreciation for his quality as a player and as a person. We are in constant contact with his club.”
Leipzig, who will be coached by Julian Nagelsmann next season, could be at risk of losing star striker Timo Werner this summer, thus accentuating the need of Lookman.
That being said, Lookman’s departure from Goodison Park could be a huge loss for Everton, who have struggled due to their lack of potential in attack over the past 12 months. Although the likes of Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse have shown flashes of brilliance in the second half of last season, the Toffees desperately lack options in the attacking department with Sandro Ramirez and Kevin Mirallas facing an uncertain future at the club.
Additionally, they have also lost star player Wayne Rooney earlier this summer, meaning it’ll be imperative for the Toffees that they try and hold on to Ademola Lookman.
The 20-year-old English wonderkid has shown immense potential during his time in the Bundesliga and has also shone during the pre-season, making him an important cog in the Everton attack next season. Although it remains to be seen if the Merseysiders can manage to keep hold of the highly rated forward during the remainder of this summer transfer window.
