According to a recent report by The Scottish Sun, Rangers are attempting to lure Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke. The 20-year-old has been a subject of interest for the Gers for the major part of the transfer window and the report states that there is still a possibility of Solanke’s move to the Ibrox Stadium this summer.
Rangers are living a new life under the guardianship of Steven Gerrard. The former Liverpool skipper has already made some quality signings to beef up the arsenal that he inherited and apparently, he is not done yet. The likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Jamie Murphy, Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield certainly have the calibre to thrive in Scottish football. Besides, Jon Flanagan and Ovie Ejaria have also been acquired from the ranks of Liverpool.
Gerrard understandably has close ties with the Reds and he is making use of the same to strike deals. One of the major problems for the Glasgow based outfit last season was their inability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Thus, the interest to sign Solanke makes complete sense with his top-flight experience and potential.
Although Solanke emerged through the youth ranks of Chelsea, he couldn’t carve a notable position for himself in their senior side. After a decent loan spell with Dutch outfit Vitesse, he was lured to Anfield last summer. Jurgen Klopp has a plethora of attacking stars in his side and thus, Solanke understandably got the short end of the stick when it came to getting minutes on the pitch.
He bagged 21 appearances in the Premier League last season, only 5 of which were starts and he managed to score 1 goal and garner 1 assist. In all fairness, it looks unlikely that he will be a regular starter under the tactical nous of Klopp this season as well and thus, a loan spell should be beneficial for him to ensure that his development process refrains from getting stagnated.
The starlet will be a good signing for the Light Blues as he has raw pace in his legs and always looks to make an impact in the final third. Besides, he is good with his movements and possesses the capability of reading the game in an astute manner. He is far from being a finished product and to brush himself further, a temporary move away from Liverpool should be beneficial for him.
