According to a recent report by Mail Online, Leeds United are nearing a deal to lure Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford to the Elland Road. The report states that Bamford is due for his medical today to complete his £10million move from the ranks of the Smoggies after personal terms were agreed upon by the player and the Yorkshire based outfit.
Leeds United endured a stuttering campaign in the Championship last term under the stewardship of Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom. They couldn’t make their presence felt in the race for promotion to the Premier League and finished at the 13th spot in the league standings. With Marcelo Bielsa at the helm of the club now, fans are excited about the new season which kicks off for their side against Stoke City next Sunday.
Bielsa had brought two new players early on in Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker, on loan from Chelsea, and a couple of days ago, he pulled off a masterstroke by bagging Barry Douglas from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a three-year deal.
Finding the back of the net was a serious headache for the Whites last season and no wonder Bielsa is finalizing a deal to bring Bamford.
The 24-year-old has already played for a number of English clubs including Derby County, Burnley and Crystal Palace and is certainly well-versed in English football. He is a clinical goal scorer and is capable of plying his trade anywhere in the attacking zone. Bamford scored 11 goals in 41 league games for the Riversiders last season and he will be looking to improve upon the tally this time around.
The Englishman is a cunning poacher inside the box. His willingness to work his socks off and his pace makes a lethal combo which Bielsa will look to make full use of. Leeds desperately needed freshness in their attack and Bamford should provide that in abundance.
Matej Vydra was heavily linked with Leeds United this summer but his £11million move to the Peacocks has reportedly collapsed as the striker couldn’t agree on personal terms. This makes the need of getting Bamford even more important. At the moment, Bielsa has Tyler Roberts and Kemar Roofe as the main sources of goals this season and someone like Bamford could give them a tough fight for a place in the starting line-up.
