Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Chelsea’s Kenedy on a season-long loan deal. The Brazilian sensation re-joins the club after initially spending six months on loan, during the second half of last season.
Kenedy, 22, joined the Magpies back in January and endured a successful time with the club. He scored two goals in 13 appearances, helping the Tyneside outfit finish in a respectable tenth position in the final league standings.
Even though the Magpies have failed to agree on a permanent deal for the former Watford star, bagging his services for the entirety of the next season could be a big boost for the club after he had attracted the interest of several top clubs around Europe. In fact, the 22-year-old was even linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer.
However, the player is apparently happy to have rejoined the club following an impressive spell last term stating: “I am so happy with this interest from Rafa Benítez, that he came back for me.
“I want to keep it going, the work that I did here before, for the new season. I have received many, many messages on social media from the fans. They made me feel appreciated, so I wanted to come here in this new season and give everything on the pitch.” – he added.
Kenedy’s arrival at Tyneside could actually be a good deal for all parties, even for Chelsea, who are notoriously known for their tendency of loaning out unwanted players.
Newcastle, in particular, will be delighted to have secured the services of the Brazilian sensation for yet another season. Head coach Rafa Benitez has already shown a keen interest in bolstering his squad this summer and the addition of the 22-year-old will revitalize the team as they aim to make an impression in the forthcoming campaign.
The former Watford starlet played a key role in a wide position for Newcastle last season, with his dynamism and industry often helping out the Magpies in all aspects of the game. His arrival will help fill the gap on one flank and if they can hold on to Matt Ritchie this summer, Newcastle could definitely become formidable in wider positions of the pitch.
As for Chelsea, Kenedy’s loan spell at Tyneside will only help him further improve as a player and also to showcase his talents in the Premier League. Even though the Blues are quite shallow in the wider positions, the expected arrival of few star players would have sent Kenedy way down the pecking order and thus, he was definitely a good riddance for the West-London giants.
