Paul Pogba is a World Cup champion right now and hence it is understandable that there would be transfer rumours surrounding him. And it is not a surprise to see a recent report state that Juventus, Pogba’s former club are keen to bring the lad back to Turin and have approached Mino Raiola, in order to initiate talks with Manchester United.
Pogba was a product of United’s famed academy but was forced to move to Juventus due to lack of playing time in England. At Turin, he developed into one of the best midfielders in European football and even played in a Champions League final with Juventus.
United broke the then world-record transfer fee to lure him to Manchester and ever since then, Pogba has become the mainstay of United’s setup. He initially took time to settle and injuries in both the seasons have somewhat derailed his progress. However, Pogba has shown that he is capable of stepping up when it matters.
The Frenchman was phenomenal in United’s victories against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea in the league and even Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semifinal. The only top-six side against whom he didn’t play was Liverpool, as he was unavailable for selection on both occasions United faced Jurgen Klopp’s side in the league.
He has a tendency of switching off in matches against opponents from the lower half of the points table and this is something which Pogba should work on.
It should be noted that United are trying to build a team around the Frenchman. The signing of Nemanja Matic last season and Fred this season is to form a three-man midfield that can complement Pogba’s qualities well enough.
The 25-year-old should also ensure that he manages to stay fit throughout the course of the season. United have shown that they can fire on all cylinders provided Pogba plays up to the expected levels. Jose Mourinho had a rift with him in February last season but that was resolved as Pogba re-established himself in the starting XI again.
Interest from other clubs for Pogba is common but it would be very difficult for Juventus to lure him back to Italy. From a personal perspective too, Pogba should win trophies with United. Otherwise, his adaptability will be questioned once again and that is something, which the Frenchman would like to put to bed once and for all.
Raiola is an expert in cooking up deals to make major profits for him but Manchester United should make sure that Pogba doesn’t leave. Especially not after his performances in the World Cup.
