Transfer News:
Croatia are enduring a fruitful time in the World Cup as they have rampaged into the finals after defeating England with a margin of 2-1. The star of their campaign so far, Luka Modric has been instrumental both as a player and even from the leadership perspective.
However, a recent report from the Express states that Manchester United are ready to lure Modric to them, in order to add more depth, experience, and quality to their midfield. The Croat won a third consecutive Champions League with Real Madrid and might possibly look for a change of scenarios.
Modric previously represented Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and was in United’s radar before his transfer to the Spanish giants. Over the years, he has developed on to become probably the best midfielder in Europe currently, having developed a varied set of qualities and the temperament to deliver at the biggest of stages too.
Modric’s Magic:
The 32-years-old is a brilliant reader of the game and can excel from both deeper as well as offensive positions. His immaculate footwork, coupled with a knack of picking out the perfect pass means that the team is always on the appropriate attacking move whenever he finds himself in an unmarked position.
He takes the ball out from the back, distributes it well enough to the flanks, drifts aside to put in some lobbed balls or crosses and can take a sumptuous long-range shot too.
Modric threads quite accurate through-balls too and is a constant provider of goal-scoring opportunities. He is tenacious, and up for a defensive shift too, always looking to help the team in defensive scenarios whenever required.
His major contributions came in the UEFA Champions League this season, as he put in 1.4 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game too. He scored once and assisted once in 11 games, but was constantly influencing figure in the matches.
The former Spurs’ man has probably been Croatia’s best player in the World Cup so far, has delivered an average of 2.7 key passes in each game too.
Will this transfer take place?
Modric has probably been the most vital cog in Madrid’s midfield, and it is difficult to believe that they would let them go. Especially, when the club will undergo a transition due to the departures of Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo, Modric will be a key figure on the field and in the dressing room too.
The transfer relations between United and Real Madrid have not been the best lately, and it would be difficult for them to agree on a move within a month. United would look to make a couple of more signings but luring Modric seems quite far-fetched currently.
