Liverpool might have been active in the transfer window but the squad still has a few weaknesses that Klopp needs to look at. While the goalkeeping area is the obvious one, the problem of depth is another the Reds need to resolve.
Last season, the arrival of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain helped the team in terms of drive and he did score a few belters in the big games as well. Unfortunately, he was injured before the big Champions League final and has been ruled out for the coming season as well.
Chamberlain is likely to be replaced by Naby Keita who plays a similar role in terms of driving the ball at the opposition from the midfield. Fabinho’s arrival has added depth, but another area Liverpool need to focus on is the attack.
Last season, Mane, Firmino and Salah did a lot of the work up top and Klopp needs a few players on the bench who can be relied on during the long and hard season.
Liverpool might have signed Xherdan Shaqiri already, but reports state the club are eyeing a move for former Shakhtar Donetsk wide-man Bernard.
Is Bernard good enough for Liverpool?
The Brazilian decided to run down his contract with the Ukrainian club. Back in December last year, he had said, “There is interest from European clubs, many things are appearing. That is why I have to have my head in the right place, be calm and know and choose the best.”
Bernard had a pretty good season with Shakhtar as he scored three times in eight Champions League games. Though he didn’t make the cut for the Brazilian squad, he mustered impressive numbers for his club.

Predominantly a left-sided winger, Bernard has the ability to take on defenders and beat them with his good burst of pace or skill. He might not be a Coutinho in terms of passing, but he’s that sort of player who can turn a game or stretch play against a tight defence.
Like Shaqiri, Bernard would be a pretty good option off the bench and if he is able to pick up fast, he could challenge Mane for a first-team spot.
For a free transfer, he isn’t a bad option at all. Liverpool will have to make their move quickly though as Arsenal and Everton are also interested in his services.
