According to a recent report by Liverpool Echo, Harry Wilson has emerged as a major target for Leeds United. The Whites are one of many Championship clubs who are willing to sign him on loan owing to the calibre he possesses. Considering his apparent demand, it wouldn’t be easy for Marcelo Bielsa to make him sign on the dotted line as they are set to compete against the likes of Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.
Leeds United struggled throughout their campaign last season, be it under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen or Paul Heckingbottom. They hardly made their presence felt in the race for promotion to the Premier League and concluded their Championship season by finishing at the 13th spot in the standings with 60 points to their name. The fresh season will bring new hope for the Yorkshire based outfit but Bielsa needs to enhance the quality of his arsenal before the summer transfer window shuts down.
Their interest to sign Wilson does make a lot of sense, for he is indeed a quality youngster who is hungry to ply his trade and contribute to the cause of his side. Having emerged through the youth ranks of Liverpool, he was promoted to their senior side but owing to the plethora of stars Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal, he has failed to cement his place in the side. Nonetheless, the 21-year-old is still young and needs to brush himself further.
During the second half of the previous campaign, Wilson plied his trade with Hull City and made a mark for himself. In 13 appearances in the English second division, he plundered 7 goals and garnered 3 assists and no wonder a dozen Championship outfits have lined up to sign him. Klopp is believed to be a big fan of Wilson and rates him very highly but owing to the high expectations from Liverpool, he might not get regular game time if he stays at Anfield.
Leeds United do need a notable winger and signing Wilson on loan should meet the desires of all the parties involved. The Welsh international is a smart starlet with raw pace in his legs and has the know-how to create chances as well as to score goals, Besides, he is good with the set-pieces and is an excellent crosser of the ball. It is going to be intriguing to see where Wilson plays during the 2018-19 season but Bielsa’s camp must leave no stone unturned to rope him into their side.
