Leeds United failed to find their feet last season and hardly made their presence felt in the race of promotion to the Premier League.
Under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen as well as Paul Heckingbottom, the Whites flattered to deceive and finished their Championship campaign with 60 points to their name at the 13th spot in the league standings.
With Marcelo Bielsa being appointed as the new manager of the Yorkshire based outfit, the fans expected a busy summer after what transpired last term.
However, there hasn’t been much activity by Leeds United as they have managed to complete just two deals, signing Jamaal Blackman and Lewis Baker, on loan from the ranks of Chelsea. The summer transfer window is due to shut down on 9th August and Bielsa must ensure the club get a few fresh faces in.
The Peacocks have been heavily linked with Derby County striker, Matej Vydra, but they have found it difficult to prise him out of the Pride Park Stadium. Reports have emerged stating that his high wage demands have proved to be a stumbling block.
As per latest reports, Leeds United have now agreed a deal for Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford. The fee is supposedly £7million.
Patrick Bamford – Fact file and what he’ll add to Leeds United
Bamford emerged through the youth ranks of Nottingham Forest and was quickly snapped up by Chelsea. He was shipped out on loan to MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley.
Eventually, in the January transfer window of 2017, he made a permanent switch to Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old mustered 41 appearances for Middlesbrough last term, scoring 11 goals. Capable of plying his trade on either wing as well as a centre-forward, Bamford is a cunning attacker who is quite clinical with his finishing technique.
He is a good reader of the game and his pace and movements on and off the ball enable him to stretch the opposition back line with relative ease. Besides, he also contributes to the defensive needs of his side.
Leeds United struggled up top last season and to compete for the top honours, they do need more quality. Bamford could be a superb addition to their side in that respect.
He has his prime years ahead of him and owing to the experience of the second division football he has under his belt, Leeds are likely to benefit if the move eventually materializes.
