Leeds United struggled to make their presence felt in the Championship last season. Under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen as well as Paul Heckingbottom, the Whites flattered to deceive. They couldn’t make their presence felt in the race for promotion to the Premier League and finished at the 13th spot in the league standings with 60 points to their name.
Earlier this summer, Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as the new manager of the club. A busy summer transfer window was expected by the fans after he gave his consent to manage the Yorkshire based outfit. However, that hasn’t been the case so far as he has managed to make just two signings, that too on loan, in Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker from the ranks of Chelsea.
There is still some time for the summer transfer window to shut down and one might expect Bielsa to make a couple of strong moves in the coming days. According to a recent report by Birmingham Live, Leeds United have placed West Ham United’s young gun Domingos Quina on their radar. However, it wouldn’t be easy for the Peacocks to make him sign on the dotted line.
Apparently, Barcelona are also believed to be in hot pursuit of Quina and this could be a stumbling block in Bielsa’s pursuit to sign him on loan. The 18-year-old was targeted by Sheffield United last summer but the move failed to materialize. As a result, Quina was mostly utilized in the Under-23 side of the Hammers. It would certainly be intriguing to see which club has the last laugh though.
Quina is versatile and can operate as a winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. He is a highly rated asset in the books of West Ham United owing to the calibre he has shown so far. Barcelona’s youth system has ceased to be as productive as it used to be five or six years back. The Spanish giants have been recruiting proven players in the recent years and thus, La Masia graduates have not been able to break into the first-team.
The starlet would find it very difficult to get recognized if he moves to the ranks of Barca. He needs to taste competitive football and a Championship side like Leeds United would be an ideal destination for his further growth. Besides, there would be less pressure on him and he would be able to play his natural game and help Leeds United in the promotion race.
