According to shocking reports from Turkey, Domagoj Vida’s agent Ugur Avadan has claimed both Liverpool and Everton have made offers for his client this summer. The Besiktas defender has caught a lot of attention in the market thus far, thanks to his impressive performances in the FIFA World Cup 2018.
In fact, his incredible displays in the coveted tournament have even forced Barcelona to make an inquiry for the defender. But as per recent reports, Everton have been the latest club to have launched a bid for the Croatian international.
Vida, 29, was an integral part of the Croatian side that surprised everyone to reach the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Besiktas superstar built a formidable defensive partnership with Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren that saw Croatia concede only five goals – barring their disastrous performance in the final.
Regardless of their defeat, however, Vida’s impressive campaign didn’t go unnoticed with many top clubs across Europe vying for his signature.
Everton, in particular, have been keen on bolstering their defensive unit this summer for a number of reasons. Key defender Ashley Williams has entered the final phase of his career while the veteran Phil Jagielka has already reached the end of his illustrious career.
Thus, Michael Keane remains the only reliable operator in central defence alongside the ageing Williams. As a result, newly appointed head coach Marco Silva is eager to sign a top quality defender in the ongoing transfer window.
Domagoj Vida, in that regard, could be an ideal candidate, who will not only be a reliable signing but also someone who will be able to lead the Toffees as they usher in a new era under coach Silva.
The 29-year-old has been one of the most consistent Croatian defenders in the past few years and also bags an ample amount of experience in top-flight football. Vida played over 150 matches for his former employer Dynamo Kyiv with his consistent performances earning him a move to Besiktas.
Since arriving at the club, Vida has been an ever-present figure for the Turkish giants as they managed to finish fourth in the Super Lig last season.
Therefore, the Merseyside giants definitely have enough reasons to go all out for the experienced defender, who is certainly a tailor-made fit for the Premier League given his physical attributes. However, the Toffees could face stiff competition from clubs like Barcelona, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.
