Everton have joined the race to sign Spezia youth sensation Samuele Mulattieri. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has already courted the interest of several top clubs around Europe, including Juventus and Inter Milan.
According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Everton have become the latest club to join the long list of potential suitors for Mulattieri this summer. The Toffees are reportedly willing to hijack Juventus’ move for the under-18 sensation in an attempt to bolster their squad in this transfer window. It is understood that the Italian giants are leading the race for his signature and have already presented an offer to Spezia.
Mulattieri, 17, has caught a lot of attraction for his incredible performances in the Italian youth league last season. After initially impressing with the Italian Under 17-A in the 2016/17 season, the youngster netted as many as 13 goals in just 19 Primavera 2a matches last season. In fact, his exceptional performances earned him three appearances in the Serie B last campaign, where he also scored his first ever professional goal against Pescara back in April.
Therefore, it’s just a matter of time before Mulattieri becomes a regular fixture for Spezia’s first team next season. However, that’s only happening if the Serie B outfit manages to hold on to their star player this summer, the chances of which are getting thinner by every passing minute.
Everton, on the other hand, have been keen on bolstering their squad this summer, following a disappointing campaign last time out. Newly appointed manager Marco Silva has remained adamant on undergoing a squad overhaul as he seeks to guide Everton to a fruitful campaign next season.
Mulattieri’s addition to this team could be an interesting one considering the fact that Everton have mostly struggled with the receding form of their attacking midfielders last campaign. The likes of Davy Klaassen and Glyfi Sigurdsson have failed to make an impression in their debut season at the Merseyside. In fact, Klaassen is hugely linked with a move out of Everton this summer.
Even though Samuel Mulattieri is clearly not ready for Premier League football at this point in time, the youngster has shown tremendous promise during his time with the Spezia youth teams. A creative influence in the final third, the 17-year-old is also gifted with a knack of scoring goal, which is rather evident with his impressive scoring tally – and Everton will definitely appreciate this following the departure of Wayne Rooney to the MLS earlier this week.
However, that being said, it remains to seen whether Everton will manage to hijack a deal especially Inter Milan also showing a keen interest in the highly rated midfielder. The Merseysiders definitely need to make a suitable offer if they are to lure him away from Italy this summer.
