Manchester United are keen on the services of Mateo Kovacic, as per latest reports. The Real Madrid starlet has been long linked with a move out of Santiago Bernabeu with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly leading the chase for his signature this summer.
In fact, latest rumours claim Mateo Kovacic has already stated his desire to leave Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window, which has put a lot of clubs on high alert. Although Real Madrid have remained adamant in keeping hold of their star player, it appears as if the highly talented midfielder is destined for a move out of Los Blancos this summer, following yet another disappointing season on an individual level.
Mateo Kovacic joined the Spanish giants in the summer of 2015 but chances have come far and few between since he made his move from Inter Milan. Despite featuring in over 100 competitive matches for Los Blancos, Kovacic has failed to establish a regular spot in the starting lineup, often being overlooked due to the star-studded presence of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro in the midfield positions.
And last season was no different as the 24-year-old appeared in only 988 minutes of league action, which has been his lowest tally since joining Real Madrid in 2015. Thus, leaving the Bernabeu appears to be a logical move for the former Inter Milan midfielder, which could be a huge boost for Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites have been tracking the progress of Mateo Kovacic for a long time now and will be delighted if they can secure his services this summer.
Even though Spurs have looked quite strong in the midfield department last season, especially with the likes of Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Eric Dier performing at the top of their game, the North-London giants are in need of summer reinforcements as they lack quality depth in that area of the pitch.
During his time with Inter Milan, the 24-year-old has already shown what is capable of and it’s only a matter of time before he starts to deliver at the top level. Therefore, Tottenham Hotspur can provide him with a perfect platform to not just prove Real Madrid wrong but also to become a prominent figure in the Spurs’ starting eleven.
However, that being said, the Premier League giants will likely have to flush out a considerable sum of money for the Real Madrid midfielder with Kovacic having a release clause of €50 million.
