Manchester United Linked With Tottenham Hotspur Attacker: Is This Move Likely To Happen?

Transfer News:

South Korea might have been knocked out of the FIFA World Cup, but Son-Heung Min’s impressive performances have surely caught Manchester United’s eye. Hence, after his goal against Germany, rumors are surfacing that the Korean is being courted by United for a summer move. Son was phenomenal for Korea and endured possibly his best season for Spurs last time around. United are apparently looking to beef up their attacking personnel after Anthony Martial’s agent expressed his client’s intent to move away from Old Trafford due to lack of sufficient playing time.

Son has become an integral member of Spurs’ squad, as his skills from the left flank have added quality and flair to an already exciting attacking lineup. He improved a lot under Mauricio Pochettino’s tutelage, and the rumour is quite interesting as this seems to have come out of the blue.

Son: Player Profile

Heung-Min is essentially a left-winger, as his dazzling pace down the wings coupled with his immaculate footwork and the tendency to find the right man inside the box with good crosses means that he creates many goal-scoring chances. He likes to drift in from the flank and can form some good passing moves that outsmart the opposition. As a left-winger, the multi-dimension to his style of play is something very interesting and shows his versatility too.

Son can peg his marker back and drag him to the byline or he can equally effectively cut inside, which means that the opposition can never fully predict or presume his next move with the ball. He has a good, silky touch on the ball and can thread inch-perfect through balls from a deeper position too. Son’s tenacity makes him an interesting prospect for a winger, as he is always keen to win the ball back as soon as he loses it in the wide areas.

Last season, he scored 12 goals and assisted six times in 37 appearances in the Premier League. However, he started in only 27 of those matches but was a constant presence in important games for Pochettino’s men.

Should Manchester United make a move?

As interesting as this rumour sounds, it is quite unlikely to happen. Son is a left-winger by trade and United already have Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who prefer playing in that role. Hence it is difficult to fathom exactly why they would want to fill in more left-wingers rather than addressing the right flank issue currently. In addition, as said before, Son is quite crucial to Tottenham’s style of play and hence Daniel Levy would not want to sell him to an English club. There might be many complications in this deal and United would prefer refraining from pursuing Heung-Min this summer.
