The run to the Champions League final last season has now made Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool one of the most attractive projects in Europe. The German tactician has been a busy man this summer, looking to add some quality and depth to his squad and this has seen him linked with some of the finest stars in Europe.
But one player they are reportedly desperate for is Marco Asensio.
Liverpool To Submit Final Asensio Bid:
A transfer target for the Reds even last summer, Asensio has slowly established himself in the first team at Bernabeu but continues to be linked with an exit. And the latest story from Marca now claims that Liverpool are the front-runners for his signature if Real Madrid are ready to let him leave.
It is understood that Asensio has a €700m release clause but Liverpool are ready to pay up to €180m for his services. Julen Lopetegui could consider a sale this summer, so is Asensio a necessity for Liverpool at that price?
Asensio And His Style Of Play:
A natural winger, with a keen eye for goal, Asensio is a match winner, who steps up on big occasions. He is a naturally gifted player, with great control and technique over the ball. At just 22, he already has 89 La Liga appearances and has won two UCL titles with the side.
He is an excellent dribbler, who loves to cut in from the flank and create space for himself. But he can also put in crosses, can help in build-up play and is a modern day winger, happy to wait for his chances. He has also mastered the art of hold up play, is never ready to give up, making him a perfect fit for the English game.
He is now a part of the Spanish national side in Russia and is a star in the making. Real Madrid hierarchy believes that he is a future contender for the Ballon d’Or, and he has time and again shown why. He is a huge asset to have in the side and will be a sensational addition to an already impressive squad at Anfield.
How Will Klopp Fit Him In?
Though it is suggested that Liverpool have opened talks for Asensio, they are yet to table a formal bid. But does he really fit into Klopp’s system at the club?
The German used a 4-3-3 system, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings. Asensio will not want to move for a place on the bench and at his price, should be a regular starter for Liverpool. This will push Klopp into using a 4-2-3-1 system, which was effective in his time at Dortmund.
Mohamed Salah, who was unstoppable last season, could be pushed into a striker’s role with Roberto Firmino playing as a no.10. This will also help Liverpool use Naby Keita and Fabinho in the midfield, leaving them no longer in need of Nabil Fekir.
The French international would have allowed Klopp to continue his system from the previous season but Asensio is no less a star and could be a game changer for the Reds. But do you think Liverpool will break their bank for his asking price?
