Transfer News:
Chelsea were extremely inconsistent last campaign but the FA Cup glory somewhat salvaged their season. However, with no Champions League football next time around, the club might find it difficult to attract big stars in the transfer market and hence they are reportedly lining up a move for Borussia Dortmund youngster Christian Pulisic.
However, the report does not stop there. According to it, Chelsea are ready to offload Alvaro Morata in order to entice Dortmund and want to use the striker as a part in the Pulisic deal. Morata endured a frustrating season, in which he faltered after a good start and was unable to cope with injuries and lack of form.
His inability to settle quickly prompted Chelsea to buy Olivier Giroud in January and the French international instantly became the manager’s first choice striker. However, the club is now looking to further enhance their attacking options and is working towards a tricky deal for Pulisic.
Pulisic: Is he worth the hype?
Christian has been quite a revelation in the Bundesliga, as his exploits from the right wing have been well documented by the media and the pundits alike. His dazzling pace, coupled with quick footwork and a knack for playing one-touch football ensures entertainment to the fans and the manager alike.
Moreover, he is well-developed in the technical aspect and he can cut in from the flank and doubles up as an extra goal-scoring threat by taking shots regularly at the goal. Pulisic is a decent passer, knowing when to cut open the opposition’s backline or square the ball for a teammate inside the box too. He can definitely improve his efficiency in front of the goal, which is something that will happen as he continues his training with age.
Last season he scored four goals and assisted five times in 32 Bundesliga appearances, according to Whoscored. Pulisic completed 2.4 successful dribbles in the league too and was an integral member even at such a young age for the Dortmund squad. He can operate on both wings but is generally used more from the right side rather than the left flank.
Should Chelsea sign him?
A move to England, moreover at Chelsea would be risky and the lad should avoid doing so. The deal is said to include Morata too, who, in my opinion, deserves another season at least to prove his talent in England. He surely has the ability and needs to work at his game more rather than just keep jumping ships. Pulisic, despite all the talent, isn’t a finished product yet and Dortmund is one of the best clubs in order to develop young footballers. Chelsea have an unfortunate tradition of messing up with emerging stars and Pulisic should most definitely look to resume his improvement in Germany.
