Top flight newbies Wolverhampton Wanderers are already planning for life in the Premier League as they continue to be linked with a move for some exciting stars this summer. There are a number of stories that are exciting the club’s fans but reports now claim that they may have already completed their first signing of the transfer window.
Player Reveals He is Likely To Join Wolves
As reports suggested earlier in the month, Espirito Santo is desperate for Rio Ave star Pele and has already offered £9m to the Portuguese outfit to try and land Pele this summer. And the midfielder has all but confirmed his transfer in a recent interview, claiming that playing in the PL is his dream and that the fact that his family stays in London makes it all the more exciting.
He is reportedly ready to accept an offer from the newly promoted club, but do you think he is the right man for Santo’s side?
Who Is Pele?
Having started his senior career with Belenenses, Judilson Mamadu Tuncará Gomes, also known as Pele, has been a nomad, playing for seven different clubs in three different countries, before joining Rio Ave just last season. He also decided to represent Guinea-Bissau as his national side and made his debut for the side last year.
A defensive midfielder, who can put in a shift in an attacking role if needed, the 26-year old is known for his ability to sit back and shield his backline from pressure. He is adept at finding his teammates from long range and is effective in counter-attack situations. But his dribbling and technique on the ball also make him a dangerous player with the ball at his feet.
He likes to keep it simple, is effective outside both boxes and his defensive discipline will impress Santo at Wolves. At just 26, he has a big future ahead of him and could be a genuine match winner for the English outfit for years to come.
Where Does He Fit In?
The manager used a 3-4-3 system to great effect at Molineux in the Championship and used a fixed midfield partnership of Ruben Neves and Roman Saiss, both of who were one of the best players in the entire competition.
Alfred N’Diaye was also effective when called upon but these names remain the only options for the two defensive midfield roles in the system under Santo. Portuguese ace Neves has been extensively linked with an exit and though he has pledged his future to the club, it makes sense for Santo to spend on a player who is ready to come off the bench and make an impact.
With no previous experience in England, Pele might spend the first season on the touchline, learning and growing into the English game. At just £9m, he is a definite steal and could be a huge coup for Wolves.
