West Ham United appoint Premier League winner as the new head coach: The perfect fit?

West Ham United have appointed former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, after sacking David Moyes, who guided the Hammers to a 13th place finish earlier this season.

Even though the Premier League giants had previously thought of going after Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez as their new head coach, club’s joint-chairman David Sullivan seemed fairly happy after appointing the Chilean mastermind this week.

“Manuel brings a reputation for attacking football and getting the best out of his players,” said Sullivan.

“We believe he will attract new talent to the London Stadium as well as improving the current squad.

“Manuel is the first West Ham United manager to have a Premier League title on his CV, and we believe his experience, quality and proven record of taking teams forward quickly will ensure that he is successful here.” – he added.

Indeed! Manuel Pellegrini is currently one of the most well-respected managers in world football, largely thanks to his welcoming attitude. The Chilean could prove to be a good addition to the Hammers, in the coming years.

West Ham United, on the other hand, have once again undergone a tough season in the Premier League this season. Despite boasting one of the strongest mid-table rosters in the league, the Hammers have finished the season in a disappointing 13th place.

However, that being said, Pellegrini’s appointment as the new head coach could definitely reinvigorate the London giants, as they look to make a big impact in the English top flight next season.

The 64-year-old comes with a bucket full of experience, having coached a series of clubs in his glittering coaching career, including Real Madrid, Villarreal and Manchester City.

His stint with Manchester City, in particular, earned him a lot of respect as he managed to win the Premier League title during his debut season whilst also securing two league cups.

However, after the lack of consistency and the failure to deliver the Champions League, the former Real Madrid boss was replaced by none other than Pep Guardiola, who has been excellent so far.

Manuel Pellegrini’s excessive experience of coaching in the top flight, especially in the Premier League will be useful for West Ham United. In addition, the 64-year-old also has the knack of bringing the best out of the older players, meaning the likes of Mark Noble, Winston Reid et al. could potentially be reinvigorated by the Chilean mastermind.

Following the mediocrity of the last few seasons, West Ham fans and players as well as the club itself, have had, the Hammers are in dire need of some stability at the moment and the appointment of the calm and composed Pellegrini might just be a perfect solution for the London giants.
