Tottenham Hotspur will end another season without a trophy under Mauricio Pochettino but the manager now looks determined to turn things around next season and has already started planning for the summer transfer window.
This has seen Spurs linked with a number of star players recently and one link that refuses to die is the club’s interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Tottenham Hotspur Eye Lazio Duo:
In what came as a surprise to even the fans, reports from The Mirror late last month claimed that Pochettino is ready to spend up to £100m to land Italian star Ciro Immobile and Serbian international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer in a blockbuster deal.
Savic And His Numbers:
At just 23, Milinkovic-Savic has turned into one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe at the moment. With a return of 13 goals and six assists in all competitions, he has been instrumental in Lazio fighting for a top-4 finish in the domestic league in Italy.
Used as a part of a five-man midfield in a 3-5-2 system, Milinkovic-Savic has been given the freedom to float into various positions, with the likes of Lucas Leiva adding numbers to the backline. That has given him the confidence to express himself and he has truly been a delight to watch this season.
Strong and dominant in the midfield, he is a smart player, who dribbles away from opponents to create space and keep the ball rolling. He is usually productive with his passing but sticks to basics while his ability to win the ball back quickly and set up his team on counters has been his trait this season.
At just 23, he has a bright future ahead of him and will be a huge coup for most clubs in Europe.
What Will He Bring To England?
In all fairness, Milinkovic-Savic is treated as a long-term replacement to Belgian international Mousa Dembele in the midfield for Spurs. The Serbian has the guile and grit to grind out his way in the English game and at his age, has enough time to get accustomed to the conditions in the country.
If he moves this summer, he can work alongside Dembele for a season before cementing his place in the first team. He also fits in Pochettino’s recruitment model at the club which makes him the perfect fit for Spurs.
But Savic is also attracting interest from the best teams in Europe so a regular place in the first team is what can lure him to England. He will be expensive but is well worth his price tag. So do you think Spurs should go all in for him?
