The speculations regarding Jack Wilshere’s future at Arsenal keep dominating the headlines even after a couple of weeks from when he seemed certain to be extending his stay at Emirates.
In a cryptic Instagram post, the midfielder has spoken of a new chapter in his life but it is unclear whether it has anything to do with his footballing career.
The Arsenal midfield starlet was hugely linked with a move to AC Milan in the past couple of weeks. However, following his omission from the England squad for the upcoming World Cup, the 26-year-old was understood to be keen to extend his stay in England and prove a point.
Once touted as the next big thing in English football, Jack Wilshere’s development hasn’t exactly gone the way Arsenal would have liked in the last five years or so. Often struggling with a plethora of injuries throughout his career, Wilshere has amazingly missed half of his professional matches at Arsenal through injuries.
After returning to Emirates, following a loan spell with Bournemouth, the 26-year-old has been somewhat decent this season, despite Arsenal’s struggles in the league. Jack Wilshere was a first-team regular in Arsenal’s Europa League campaign this year and was also handed 20 appearances in the Premier League as well.
Highly expected to leave the Emirates at the end of this season, Wilshere’s potential contract extension could prove to be a boon not just for the club but for the player as well.
With legendary head coach Arsene Wenger handing over the reins to Unai Emery, Jack Wilshere, could, therefore, definitely stand a chance of once again emerging as a key player for the Gunners under the new head coach.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will be delighted if they can tie down the highly talented midfielder, who not only adds depth in their midfield department but also has the ability to make a big impact. In addition, the departure of Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla has left the midfield a bit shallow at the moment. The presence of Jack Wilshere, therefore, will provide them with the much-needed flexibility in midfield.
There will be natural questions raised regarding the future of the current crop of players, not just Jack, with the advent of a new era at the Emirates. But considering his highly delightful passing abilities coupled with his brilliant creativity and vision in the final third, he is someone who should be valued by the team based on his footballing abilities.
He might delay his ultimate decision to fish for a better contract but as of now, Arsenal is his best option of playing football at the highest level.
