Jose Mourinho is expected to be one busy man this summer as his Manchester United side needs some serious improvements if they are to compete for the title next season. The Red Devils have been linked with some exciting stars recently but one name they are close to signing is Djibril Sidibe.
Sidibe Transfer ‘Imminent’
One of the most consistent full-backs in Europe at the moment, Sidibe is reportedly just days away from joining Manchester United. The French ace is involved in AS Monaco’s final league game this weekend reports from France suggest that United are set to announce his signature after that game.
It is reported that both teams are set to sit down for crunch talks as United are asked to shell out close to £52m for his services. There is nothing official about this story but do you think Mourinho should spend on Sidibe?
Who Is Sidibe?
Having been named in the French national side that will travel to Russia for the World Cup next month, Sidibe only moved to Monaco in the last season and helped them to the Ligue 1 title in his first season at the club. He has been effective this season as well, picking up two goals and six assists in 24 league starts, helping Monaco to the second place finish.
Known for his ability to play on either flank or as a wing-back, the 25-year old is capable of beating even the best of ‘keepers from a long range but is adept at dribbling past opponents to set up chances for his side.
An aggressive defender, happy to stick close and make fouls to disrupt the game, Sidibe is strong with his defensive attributes and is usually solid in one-on-one situations against even the best of the wingers in the competition.
He finds spaces for teammates and is usually accurate with his passing. Having already made 15 appearances for the French national side, he is an established player at the highest stage in Europe.
Where Does He Fit In?
The Red Devils have Antonio Valencia as their first choice right-back at the moment. But he is now 32, and no more a long-term option, leaving United in search of a right-back for the long term. They are also set to lose Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw, and will need as much cover for full-backs as they can for the next season.
This is why Sidibe makes a lot of sense for Mourinho. Though he will cost over £50m, his ability to play as a left-back or as a right-back or as a wing-back will make Mourinho comfortable when picking his side.
His mix of aggression and stability at the back is perfect for the Portuguese manager and surely, he is a player United should try to lure to Old Trafford this summer.
