The failure to lift any silverware in the recent season will haunt Jose Mourinho throughout the summer transfer window. So he is sure to spend on some superstars this summer and has been linked with a range of names, that will all improve the squad at Old Trafford.
But one name that many fans are excited about is Welsh international Gareth Bale.
Bale Prefers United Move If He Quits Spain
The former Tottenham Hotspur star, who was crucial to Real Madrid’s three UCL titles in the last three seasons, has struggled with regular game time at Bernabeu and has constantly been linked with an exit. He said as much in an interview after the Champions League final in Kyiv and reports now suggest that it is Manchester United that he prefers to move to, after the end of his Real Madrid career.
The Red Devils, who wanted him a few years back, are now looking to reunite Mourinho and Bale, which could be a game changer in the Premier League. But should United pursue this deal?
What Will He Bring To Old Trafford?
At 28, the Welsh international made just 20 La Liga starts in the recent season, missing a total of 14 games in all competitions due to three different injuries. He missed 29 games last season and is fast earning a tag of being injury-prone.
But the quality he produced to win the final for his side against Liverpool shows that he is still among the best in Europe and will certainly improve the squad at Manchester United. Quick, strong and perfect for the English style of play, Bale will be the only outright winger at Old Trafford, if he makes the move.
He will be one of the first names on the team sheet, will add sheer pace and quality in front of goal, something United have missed this season. His experience of winning trophies and playing at the highest stage along with his previous experience of working with Mourinho will allow him to make an immediate impact and at his age, he has at least three years at the top of his game to give to the English giants.
He may have been in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo for years at Real Madrid but he is capable of turning into the talisman of a club as big as United and is a decent coup for the Red Devils.
Should They Make A Move?
Having spent big money on Alexis Sanchez in January, Manchester United need to get rid of players to offer Bale a first-team spot and his wages. They are looking to let the likes of Anthony Martial and Juan Mata leave this summer, which should give United at least a part of the money they need to pay for Bale.
A front line of Sanchez, Bale and Romelu Lukaku has a diverse quality, with each player bringing a different set of skills to the game. If Mourinho can get them to play to their strengths, it can easily turn into one of the most productive front lines in Europe. There are very few players who fit in as well as Bale for United and Mourinho should do what it takes to land him.
If they decide to stick with Martial, Bale might only be a luxury they do not really need. So do you think Manchester United should sell Martial and spend on Bale this summer?
