The transfer window in England is set to open in less than a couple of days which means we could see a lot of movement even before the World Cup. Liverpool are one of the clubs who could be pretty active. While Emre Can is expected to leave for a free transfer as the club still haven’t renewed his contract that expires in the summer, Naby Keita will join the club soon.
The Reds still have a Champions League final to look forward to but there’s no doubt that Jürgen Klopp and co. will be eyeing a few new signings to help them match their incredible Champions League run next season as well and do well in the league.
Depth is Liverpool’s biggest problem but there are a few areas the side must strengthen. A summer ago, the fans questioned the club’s stance on their goalkeeping situation. Though Loris Karius has done well after taking over from Simon Mignolet as the club’s first choice ‘keeper, the consistency is perhaps missing and there are better keepers out there.
If reports are to be believed, Liverpool are planning a shock move for AC Milan starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 19-year old has enjoyed an incredible rise after making his debut at the tender age of 16, he has only gotten better and has been compared to Gigi Buffon.
Donnarumma – Fact file
The Italian has been touted to achieve great things in the future simply because he is a wunderkind. Still only 19, Donnarumma has a lot of experience in top flight football and unless his head turns because of the amount of money he can potentially make, he is likely to be a big star in the coming years.
He has mustered 12 shutouts this season and has made 2.4 saves a game. Milan’s defence hasn’t been the best despite the arrival of Leonardo Bonucci but Donnarumma has won the team quite a lot of points with his incredible reflexes and positioning.
Karius is slowly growing in his role and might prove to be a good custodian, but if Liverpool can sign Donnarumma, they should go ahead. The tough bit is Mino Raiola is his agent and Liverpool don’t have a good history with him considering how the Mario Balotelli transfer turned out.
