Arsenal Move A Step Closer To Landing Ligue 1 Midfield Marshal: Where Does He Fit In?

Arsenal may have to find a new manager for the next season but they are already on their way to improving their squad this summer. They are linked with some stirring stars as they look to add quality to their first team and one name that is exciting many Arsenal fans is Jean Michael Seri.

Arsenal Open Seri Talks:

A transfer target for the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, PSG and Chelsea, the 26-year old has a release clause of £35m that kicks in later this month and reports now claim that Arsenal have taken the first step to bring him to London.

Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s head of football was desperate for Seri even when he was at Barcelona and it is understood that he is looking to make the Ivory Coast international his first signing this summer. So is Seri the right man for Arsenal?

Who Is Seri?

Born and brought up in Grand-Bereby, Ivory Coast, Seri started his senior career with ASEC Mimosas but only made a name for himself after his move to Ligue 1 with Nice, back in 2015. He took no time to establish himself in the first team and played every game in his first season.

His returns in front of goal have reduced drastically in the 2017-18 campaign but the 26-year old remains one of the most exciting midfielders on show in the French top flight at the moment.

A central midfielder, who can put in a shift in a defensive role, Seri is a gifted football with great technique, vision and understanding of the game. He loves to control the tempo and wants the ball at his feet constantly. He is arrogant in his passing and is adept at breaking defences from a deeper role.

He can dribble past opponents but is at his best while orchestrating build-up play, where he can not only provide through balls for runners but can also test the keeper from long range. He is truly mesmerizing when turning defence into attack and his ability over a dead ball only makes him more dangerous.

Right Man For Arsenal?

The Gunners have Granit Xhaka, who was statistically one of the best midfielders in the league last season. Mohamed Elneny recently signed a contract extension and is the other option in the midfield along with Aaron Ramsey, who is extensively linked with an exit.

Jack Wilshere is a free agent this summer, leaving Arsenal a bit short in the midfield. They will look at youngsters who can come good in the long term but now need established stars who can make an immediate impact and Seri fits the bill.

Alongside Xhaka, the Ivory Coast ace can add some creativity to the midfield while his discipline will add stability and balance to the whole side. With 16 appearances for Ivory Coast, he will be a crucial part of the World Cup in Russia but do you think he is the right man for Arsenal?
