West Ham United Keen On Impressive Fulham Star: Why This Move Makes Complete Sense

The Daily Mail, in one of the latest reports, has stated that West Ham United are in hot pursuit of Fulham right-back, Ryan Fredericks. West Ham United manager, David Moyes, was at the Craven Cottage on Tuesday to watch Fredericks ply his trade during Fulham’s clash against Leeds United. He must be impressed after the Cottagers secured a commendable 2-0 win over the Peacocks.

Fact File

Fredericks emerged through the youth ranks of Tottenham Hotspur but couldn’t cement his place in the starting line-up of the senior side after he was promoted. He was shipped out on loan to Brentford, Millwall and Middlesbrough and his loan spells proved to be productive. Before signing for Fulham in the summer of 2015, he was in the ranks of Bristol City and thus, he does have plenty of experience under his belt.

Attributes

The 25-year-old is a modern-day full-back who maintains a fine balance between his defensive duties and offensive endeavours. Thanks to his pace, he gallops up and down the pitch with relative ease and manoeuvres stupendous crosses on a regular basis. Besides, he is an astute passer of the ball, holds the ball well and there is no denying that he is one of the finest assets in the Championship.

Season So Far

In 39 appearances this season, the Englishman has bagged 7 assists, which is quite decent for a full-back. Moreover, he has jotted down 1.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 2.6 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game on an average. Under the tutelage of Slavisa Jokanovic, he has contributed incredibly to meet the needs of his side and has been one of their best players this season.

What Next?

Fulham are currently placed at the 3rd spot in the Championship table and are merely a couple of points behind Cardiff City. Although the Bluebirds have played a game lesser than the Whites, the race for grabbing an automatic promotional spot to the Premier League is really going to be a feisty one.

Fredericks’ contract with Fulham is due to expire in the summer and no new deal has been agreed upon by both the parties. Jokanovic must aim to extend his contract if they manage to get the uplift but a move to West Ham United is expected to appeal to Fredericks. It would be intriguing to see how the scenario pans out from here but if Moyes manages to lure him to the London Stadium in the summer, he would be a massive signing for the Premier League side.
