Leeds United started the season brilliantly but have withered away in the race for promotion to the Premier League once again. Under the stewardship of Paul Heckingbottom, the club will definitely try to bring some freshness to the club in the summer.
The former Barnsley manager needs to be spot on with his targets and free transfers will be crucial in his endeavours. Considering that Leeds United don’t have very strong financial muscle currently, here are three players whose contracts are going to expire in the summer but who can also be quality additions for Leeds United.
Sammy Ameobi
With his contract with Bolton Wanderers due to expire at the end of the season, Sammy Ameobi will be a shrewd addition to the attacking department of the Whites. More than anything else, his versatility of operating from anywhere in the offensive zone is going to be a handy asset for Leeds United who need attacking reinforcements in the summer.
The forward has scored 4 goals and registered 2 assists in 30 games in the Championship despite the fact that the Wanderers are in the midst of a relegation battle. Ameobi is a 25-year-old and owing to his pace and dribbling skills and the defensive contributions he makes, he will be a decent signing.
Andy Yiadom
Capable of operating as a left-back as well as a right-back, Barnsley fullback, Andy Yiadom, has already been linked with a move to the Elland Road in the summer as per one of the recent reports by Yorkshire Evening Post. Heckingbottom is well aware of the qualities that he possesses and is keen to bring him under his command.
The left-back slot has been a major cause for concern for the Yorkshire based outfit. Laurens De Bock has flopped after his move to Leeds United and the likes of Stuart Dallas and Vurnon Anita have flattered to deceive. Besides, Tom Pearce needs more time to brush himself into a complete package and thus, the 26-year-old should be an astute signing by Heckingbottom.
Paul Gallagher
Preston North End’s Paul Gallagher has showcased immense resilience in the middle of the park this season and given that he has plenty of experience under his belt, he could be the leader in the middle of the park for the Peacocks. Predominantly, Gallagher is a central defensive midfielder but can operate from the right and left side of the midfield as well.
In 27 appearances in the Championship this season, the 33-year-old has made 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances and 0.3 blocks per game on an average. Besides, he has also bagged 1 goal and 4 assists to his name and considering that his contract is due to expire in the summer, Heckingbottom must try to lure him to the Elland Road.
