Aston Villa succumbed to Norwich City at the Carrow Road last weekend as the Yellow Army secured a comprehensive 3-1 win over the Villans. However, Steve Bruce’s men have to regroup as they are due to host Cardiff City at the Villa Park on Tuesday.
Glenn Whelan was on the bench against the Canaries and we might see him featuring at some point against Warnock’s men. However, Alan Hutton is out of contention for the upcoming fixture.
Here is how we expect Bruce to dish out his starting XI against Neil Warnock’s men.
Sam Johnstone is expected to retain his spot under the bar. The Manchester United loanee has done a decent job under the tutelage of Bruce this season. He has garnered 17 clean sheets from 41 league appearances, making 2.44 saves per game on an average, and has been the first choice shot-stopper for the Lions.
John Terry’s experience and know-how will play a huge part in dictating the whereabouts of Aston Villa next season. The former Chelsea skipper has been quite resilient at the back alongside James Chester and the duo is expected to start at the heart of their side’s back line.
Ahmed Elmohamady has engineered a fine balance between his defensive duties and offensive endeavours from the right-back slot this season and he is anticipated to get the nod to start once again. Meanwhile, Neil Taylor should keep his place at left-back.
Birkir Bjarnason’s impact in the middle of the park is undeniable. He cushions the defensive line meticulously and tries to dictate the tempo of the game more often than not. Thus, Bjarnason is likely to operate in the heart of midfield once again.
Robert Snodgrass has been an instrumental figure in the attacking pursuits of Aston Villa this season and he is set to operate from the right flank. Meanwhile, Albert Adomah is likely to be stationed on the left side of the midfield. Further, Bruce is likely to tee up Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane in the central midfield.
Scott Hogan has flattered to deceive during the opportunities he has received of late and perhaps it is time for Bruce to roll out Jonathan Kodjia up front. Kodjia is a formidable attacker and his predatory instincts should help bring about a change in attack.
