Manchester United Set To Sign 19 Y/O English Sensation: Can Jose Do What Ferguson Couldn’t?

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is tipped to succeed where Sir Alex Ferguson failed, by signing a member of the Hirst family.

The legendary coach of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, had famously failed to sign David Hirst when he was regarded as a top target for the Red Devils way back in 1992. David was a well-known club legend of Sheffield Wednesday, who went on to make 294 appearances for the Owls in the 1980s-1990s along with three caps for England.

That being said, however, current coach Jose Mourinho is hopeful of going one better by signing George Hirst, the son of David, from the Hirst family.

Currently a member of the Sheffield Wednesday reserve squad, George Hirst has already made a huge impression in the youth leagues this season.

Although the youngster has not been considered for the first team at Hillsborough this season, largely down to his refusal to sign a long-term contract with the Owls, George Hirst is almost destined to move to a bigger club in the upcoming summer transfer window. His current contract expires at the end of this season.

A host of Premier League clubs have already shown a keen interest in the services of the 19-year-oldĀ centre-forward, including the likes of Everton, Newcastle United and Leicester City. The Foxes were deemed as favourites to sign the Sheffield Wednesday starlet, but as per new reports, Hirst’s move to Premier League giants Manchester United is only a matter of time.

Hirst, who has made only one Championship appearance in his short career so far, is highly rated as one of the most exciting players to come out of the Sheffield youth academy. And having hit 14 goals in 27 matches for England across various youth levels, it’s really not hard to see why.

A relatively strong striker, who is particularly good when it comes to beating the opposing defender by using his body and strength, George Hirst’s general gameplay is ideally fitted for top-flight football.

Moving to Old Trafford would definitely be a dream come true for the 19-year-old, who is destined for greatness if he is nurtured well in the coming years. Furthermore, Manchester United, as a club, have given chance to a host of young players in recent years, including Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford.

Therefore, a move to Manchester could be ideal for the Sheffield Wednesday starlet, who is ready to make the next big step in his career.
