The title did eventually go to Manchester City’s hands, as Manchester United were unable to delay their celebrations by more than a week. West Brom garnered a shock victory over United, as Jose Mourinho’s men were at their inconsistent best and failed to turn up big time in the game. West Brom will go away from Old Trafford with a glint of hope to survive in the Premier League; whilst the Red Devils will go away seeing their blue counterparts celebrate their title in the city.
David de Gea: 7/10
The Spaniard wasn’t called upon a lot but produced a good diving save of Livermore in the first half.
Antonio Valencia: 6/10
Valencia was strong on his end and made some good runs while tracking back. However, late on in the game, his crosses were easily dealt with and hence he failed to imprint any attacking impetus.
Chris Smalling: 6/10
Smalling ket Rondon quiet and had a decent encounter as he looked composed and safe altogether whilst being formidable on the air too.
Victor Lindelof: 6/10
The Swede displayed his ball-playing abilities at times by trying to build the play from the back. He made some incisive passes to the final third but none of them could churn out anything notable.
Ashley Young: 6/10
Young made some good runs to the other half and tried to create something down the left flank but like Valencia, even his attacking game was neutralized by the Baggies.
Nemanja Matic: 5/10
Matic’s sloppy clearance led to Jay Rodriguez’s goal and the Serbian would be disappointed with that. However, on the ball, his composure was intact as he boasted of a pass accuracy of 92% in the match.
Ander Herrera: 6/10
Herrera had a pretty decent outing but was unfortunately replaced by Jesse Lingard in order to bring in more attacking firepower. He was denied a clear penalty in the first half too.
Paul Pogba: 6/10
The Frenchman looked adamant on creating some goal-scoring chance in the second half but was substituted in the second-half as he was very close to getting sent off due to a couple of avoidable mistakes by the man.
Alexis Sanchez: 6/10
Sanchez created three goal-scoring chances throughout the game but could have been a little bit more clinical with his finishing. The Chilean was moved to the right wing in the second half in order to accommodate Anthony Martial in the left flank.
Juan Mata: 4/10
Mata had a shocker as the Spaniard failed to keep hold of the ball, disappointed with his poor touch and gave away the ball from promising attacking positions too.
Romelu Lukaku: 6.5/10
Lukaku was unable to get one goal over his former team but the intent was there as he tried his best by dropping deep, shifting out wide, but couldn’t chip in even a single goal.
Substitutes:
Jesse Lingard: 6/10
Lingard came close to scoring two amazing goals but his shots were deflected or were off target. He even missed to sort out his feet and release Martial, who was open on the left flank. This could have actually changed the game.
Anthony Martial: 5/10
Showed some good footwork, but none of the forwards could make any good use of the chances created by the Frenchman.
Marcus Rashford: N.A
Rashford had too little time to make any single impact on the field.
