Manchester City may not be too far away from lifting their first league title under Pep Guardiola but their Champions League campaign and the recent dip in form will make the manager anxious for the upcoming campaign. He is expected to spend big yet again this summer and has been linked to some of the finest stars in Europe.
The latest name that is exciting many fans is that of Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets.
Busquets Now On Pep’s Wish List:
Arguably one of the best midfielders in the modern game, Busquets is an important part of the Ernesto Valverde’s system at Camp Nou at the moment but reports from a radio station in Spain claim that Manchester City are making desperate attempts to try and lure him to England this summer.
Barcelona will be reluctant to sell but what will Busquets bring to England?
Busquets And His Style Of Play:
A silent but effective match winner with tricks and skills galore, the 29-year old has six La Liga titles and three UCL titles to add to a World Cup and European Championship winners’ medal and stands as one of the most decorated midfielders in the game.
A smart and technically gifted grafter in the middle of the park, Busquets is a magician with the ball at his feet and more often than not, finds the path-breaking pass, that sets his team on the attack. He can do the dirty work well but is even better when controlling the tempo of the game. His flicks and touches are exquisite and make him hard to mark and when on song, he looks a class above everyone in midfield.
In Barcelona’s possession-based build-up play, Busquets loves to drop between the centre-halves and make space for his side in the middle of the park. His awareness of what is happening around him and decision making under serious pressure make him stand out as one of the best the game has ever seen.
At just 29, he has at least three more years at his best and can walk into most of the top teams in Europe.
Right Fit For Pep?
The Spanish mastermind used the Barcelona man in his time at Catalonia and got the best out of him game after game. He has used Fernandinho in a similar role at Etihad but it is evident that the Brazilian has his limitations and Pep is sure to find an upgrade for him in the transfer market this summer.
And Busquets is probably the best he can find. He will take no time to adjust to the system at City and can make an immediate impact and push City to another level. He will not come cheap and will not be easy to lure out of Spain but do you think City can land him this summer?
