Last week was something special for the Liverpool fans. They came from behind to beat Manchester City and made to the semifinals of the Champions League and eased past Bournemouth in the league to put the pressure on Manchester United who are just a point ahead.
Jurgen Klopp’s side still some work to do to finish the season on a high but considering their current form, the fans can be hopeful. The World Cup after the season will be a special time for the fans but the transfer window will also bring a lot of excitement.
The Liverpool have gone through their highs and lows in the last two transfer windows and with the team pushing the best teams in Europe, expect the club to strengthen come summer and add more quality to the side.
One of the players likely to leave is Emre Can. The German international’s contract expires in the summer and with contract talks yet to take place, Liverpool should look for a replacement and not leave it late.
Recent reports indicate the club are eyeing a move for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski. The Pole’s contract runs out in 2021 and has a £57.2m release clause.
Is Zielinski an upgrade over Emre Can at Liverpool?
Like Can, Zielinski plays in a central midfield role and likes getting forward. His ability to dribble past players is what sets him apart from Can. While the German is a more physical player and can put in a tackle, Zielinski is more nimble-footed, more like Lallana playing in the midfield role.
This season, a lot of his games for Napoli have come off the bench. He has started just 10 games so far and has scored four times. His passing accuracy has been pretty good at 87.9% and he can pick out his teammates in the attacking areas.
Something that’ll help him at Liverpool is the way Napoli play. Like Liverpool, they have a deadly front three and have a pressing approach.
If he does move to Liverpool, he will be competing with the likes of James Milner and Naby Keita for a first-team place. But the depth and quality he’ll add is what the club are after. Zielinski is still only 23 years of age and has his peak years in front of him. In the more open Premier League, he could be a good buy despite his high release clause.
