As per one of the latest reports by Chronicle Live, Leeds United are tracking Shrewsbury Town midfielder, Jon Nolan. The report also states that apart from the Whites, other Championship outfits such as Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Norwich City are also desirous to make him sign on the dotted line in the summer.
However, Leeds United probably need him more than any other side. The Yorkshire based outfit started the season brilliantly under the stewardship of Thomas Christiansen but their form took a nosedive as the season progressed. As a result, Christiansen was sacked by the board and was replaced by Paul Heckingbottom. But the former Barnsley boss has hardly been able to weave any magic.
His side is currently placed at the 14th spot in the Championship table with 54 points to their name after 43 games. The ongoing season is pretty much done and dusted for them and they must try to come back stronger next term and mount a serious promotion bid. Thus, the summer transfer window is going to be massive and Heckingbottom must beef up the quality of his arsenal by hook or by crook.
The apparent desire of the Peacocks to sign Nolan makes perfect sense, for he has really performed well in League One. He has garnered 40 league appearances for Shrewsbury Town this season and has found the back of the net on 9 occasions. The Blues have enjoyed a stellar run in the English third division and Nolan has played an instrumental role in the process.
The 25-year-old has not only added goals but has also created chances for his teammates. He has made immense defensive contributions and has passed the ball really well to knit Paul Hurst’s side as a unit. He has often operated behind the striker which has afforded him the opportunity to express himself. Although he lacks the experience of Championship football, he is ready for a step up in his career.
The central midfield has been one of the key areas of concern for Leeds United. Although Adam Forshaw has performed well after his move to the Elland Road in the January transfer window, the likes of Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips have left a lot to be desired. The exit door has to be shown to one or two and someone like Nolan has to be brought to enhance their chances of promotion next season.
