Antonio Conte will struggle to keep his job at Stamford Bridge come the start of the next season but that has not stopped the club from scouting for players who can improve the squad. This has seen Chelsea linked with some of the finest stars in Europe and one name now exciting the fans is that of Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
Chelsea Among Teams Scouting For Martial:
Having failed to earn the trust of manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, the French international is currently struggling to get into the first team and has extensively been linked with an exit this season. Reports claim that Martial wants to move to a club that can offer him regular game time and a number of top teams in Europe have already registered their interest.
Bookmakers Coral have Italian giants Juventus as the favourites to land him this summer but English clubs Arsenal and Chelsea are not too far away. So is Martial a decent coup for Chelsea?
Martial And His Struggles:
Having started the season as a regular, Martial has drastically fallen out of the first team picture. His return of nine goals and five assists in 15 PL starts is not extraordinary but for a player who is struggling to settle in, it is more than just impressive.
A natural striker who likes to lead the line, Martial has been given just three chances in that role at Old Trafford this season and has usually been pushed to the wings. But with the capture of Alexis Sanchez, he is now out of the picture for crunch games for Mourinho and is even struggling to make the matchday squad.
A natural finisher with decent skill and technique, Martial is a gifted footballer, who is destined to break goalscoring records in the future. At just 22, he already has 18 international appearances for France, to add to 132 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils. He was named the Golden Boy in Europe back in 2015 and now is the time for him to make an impact on European football.
Why Chelsea Is A Fruitful Option For Martial:
Juventus want Martial as a long-term replacement for Gonzalo Higuain while Arsenal want him to play on the wings. There are many clubs Martial can walk into the first team next season but at Stamford Bridge, he may well turn into their lead striker straight away.
The Blues spent on Alvaro Morata last summer but might want to cut the losses by selling him this summer, after a less than impressive season in the top flight. Olivier Giroud is only a backup, leaving the ST role in the first team vacant.
Martial can take up this role and with players like Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante playing behind him, the French striker can easily compete for the Golden Boot next season. He has the knack of making things happen out of nowhere, which will attract Chelsea even more but do you think Martial is a good fit for the Blues?
