West Ham United have managed to pick themselves up from the hole they dug for themselves early in the season. David Moyes, who replaced Slaven Bilic, still has some work to do to make sure that his side avoid the drop this season, but he might not be able to keep his job come the start of the next season, even if West Ham retain their top-flight status.
The club hierarchy is already looking for a replacement and one name now doing the rounds is Marco Silva.
West Ham To Move For Silva
A target for the Hammers before they appointed Moyes, Silva is currently out of a job since he was sacked by the Hornets earlier this year. Reports suggest that he will once again be revisited this summer with West Ham reportedly not too pleased with Moyes’ progress.
It is understood that the Moyes’ contract with the club allows West Ham to sit down and talk about the growth at the club and it is reported that the Hammers can relieve him of his duties before the start of the next season. Former title winner Manuel Pellegrini is at the top of their wish list but Silva is also considered as an option.
Silva And His History
Having played no football at all in England in his career as a player, Silva moved to England as a manager for the first time with Hull City but was not able to create anything special and resigned after failing to keep them away from relegation. He did not take too long to land a new job as Watford decided to give him a shot.
But the Portuguese boss won just 8 of the 26 games he was in charge at Vicarage Road and was sacked at the fag end of the January transfer window. However, he won the league title at three clubs that he managed before moving to the UK and if given an able squad like at West Ham, he can certainly turn them into a team that can compete with the best.
Though Watford and Hull City failed to show what Silva has on offer, he impressed at times against tough opponents and could be a huge coup for West Ham.
Pellegrini Or Silva?
Unless something drastically changes late this season, Moyes is not expected to keep his place in the side and should be replaced by one of Silva or Pellegrini. The Chilean manager is definitely a more established and experienced manager, who gives West Ham a shot at immediate success but the Hammers need to rebuild from scratch and are better of appointing a manager for the long term.
This is why Silva is their best option. At just 40, Silva may be inexperienced, but he has shown in his stint in England that he has a separate style of play, that has troubled the best teams in the country.
If given enough time, he can surely establish a side that can fight for a place in Europe, which will be natural progress at London Stadium.
