Tottenham Hotspur Planning A Move For German Defensive Beast: A Wise Choice?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to sign Jonathan Tah, as they prepare for life without Toby Alderweireld. The Bayer Leverkusen youngster has been identified as an ideal long-term replacement for Tottenham’s star defender, who is expected to leave the club this summer with Real Madrid interested.

While the club has failed to reach a new agreement with the Belgian over a contract extension, Spurs are ready to present a bid, in a region of £35million, for Jonathan Tah, who has been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga this season.

Spurs, having already signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax last summer, will be keen to boost their defensive department in the upcoming summer and the addition of Jonathan Tah could be an ideal move for the Lilywhites.

Since his breakthrough in professional football back in 2015, Jonathan Tah’s reputation in Germany has grown immensely in the past few seasons, largely due to his relatively big money move from Hamburg to Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.

During his time with Leverkusen, the 22-year-old has emerged as a real force in die werkself backline. His impressive partnership with Omer Toprak in his debut season earned him his first national team cap with Germany, where he featured in a friendly against England. Although his performance took a hit the following season, which also coincided with the sacking of Roger Schmidt, Jonathan Tah has managed to perform well in the league this season.

Despite the departure of his trusted defensive partner, Omer Toprak at the start of the season, Jonathan Tah has been a huge success under new coach Heiko Herrlich this season. Alongside former Dortmund defender Sven Bender, the 22-year-old built a formidable defensive partnership, which has helped Leverkusen constantly fight for the top four places.

Largely known for his immense physical prowess, Jonathan Tah is someone players will not want to mess around with. His huge 194cm physique always gives him an extra edge over his opponent while his dogged determination coupled with terrific aerial prowess makes him the complete package in the defensive department.

Furthermore, Jonathan Tah is also great when it comes to passing. The Leverkusen defensive stalwart attains an impressive passing accuracy of 85%, which is almost the same as Toby Alderweireld.

As for Tottenham, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted to acquire the services of this defensive gem, who can very well prove to be a real asset for the club in the coming years. It will interesting to see how his transfer saga takes shape in this upcoming summer.
