Norwich City’s midfield prodigy James Maddison has been one of the most impressive players in the Championship this season. His mesmerizing performances have attracted a host of top Premier League clubs, as the midfielder looks destined to leave the club at the end of this season.
According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool are all vying for the signature of James Maddison, who is valued at around £25m by the Canaries.
Tottenham, in particular, are apparently keen on signing an attacker as Mauricio Pochettino plans to bolster his side’s attacking department next season.
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table, it has been a topsy-turvy campaign for Spurs, who will be keen to make a strong push for the title next campaign. However, lack of depth in the attacking department could be their undoing and head coach Mauricio Pochettino is well aware of it, as it seems.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a host of talented attackers in recent weeks, including Bordeaux starlet Malcom. However, instead of splashing big money on the Brazilian attacking sensation, a move for James Maddison could be a more logical choice for the North-London giants this summer.
The 21-year-old has shown immense potential in the Championship this campaign, scoring 13 goals in 36 matches whilst providing seven assists. Although generally known as a central attacking midfielder, Maddison is capable of operating even on the flanks, making him more flexible in the attacking third of the pitch.
James Maddison works as a catalyst in the central areas of the pitch, meaning he often becomes the link between the midfield and offence, which makes him one of the unique players in the Championship.
In addition, the 21-year-old is also capable of creating a host of chances for his team, thanks to his great vision and creativity in the final third. He can also play in a deeper midfield role if required, hence, he can be a useful addition, especially for Mauricio Pochettino, with his squad rotations week in week out.
While he may not be a direct nor robust attacking outlet like Dele Alli, the Norwich super-talent is definitely someone, who can prove to be a long-term replacement for someone like Mousa Dembele. A technically gifted operator in the attacking areas, the Norwich attacking starlet will be an ideal fit for the Lilywhites.
Considering the impressive record of Mauricio Pochettino when it comes to developing young players, especially the young English players, James Maddison could definitely feel at home, should he make the move to Spurs this summer.
