Sam Allardyce may have managed to lift Everton momentarily to the top half of the table but it is quite evident that they need some changes to their squad, to be able to compete with the best next season. A number of star players are constantly linked with a move to Goodison and one name now doing the rounds is Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.
Vardy Top Transfer Target For Everton:
According to reports from the Mirror, Director of Football at Everton, Steve Walsh has met with the Everton hierarchy to chalk out plans for the summer. While they have a few names in mind, it is understood that they have made English star Jamie Vardy their top transfer target for the summer transfer window.
Walsh was the man who took Vardy to Leicester City from Fleetwood Town and it is understood that he will try to do the same for Everton at the end of the season. The striker’s contract does not run out until 2020, which could make him an expensive option. So should Everton go all in for him?
Vardy And His Numbers:
A late bloomer, who only made a name for himself at Fleetwood Town, Vardy has always been a natural goal scorer, having scored 57 goals in 73 domestic league appearances before he joined the Foxes back in 2012. Ever since, he has rarely looked back, lifting the Championship title in 2014 and the Premier League title in 2016.
He has been a regular in the first team at King Power over the years and has managed 55 goals and 25 assists in 133 PL appearances to date. He made his international debut for the Three Lions in 2015 and has six goals in 19 appearances so far, and is an integral part of the squad that will travel to Russia in the summer.
An instinctive finisher, with great pace and positioning sense, Vardy is a typical English striker, who loves to play on the shoulder of the last man. He is hard to catch in a foot race and usually gives his all on the field, running for lost causes and making things happen out of nowhere.
He has scored some astonishing goals in the last couple of years and has been a major reason for Leicester’s stint in the top flight. He has 13 goals and an assist in 28 starts this season and could walk into most teams in the Premier League. However, he is now 31 and does not have too many years at his peak, with the way he plays and is not a long-term option.
Right Man For Everton?
The Toffees spent on Sandro Ramirez and Cenk Tosun in the last couple of windows but are yet to replace the goal-scoring prowess of one Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United at the start of the season.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse are the other options for Allardyce to lead the line but Vardy is an upgrade on almost every name. His age will be a problem, as Everton will have to find another striker in a couple of years but he is a ready made striker, who can walk into the first team and have an immediate impact and is exactly the kind of player the Toffees need to establish themselves at the highest level.
Do you think they should go all in for Vardy?
