The Story:
Every club goes through a bad phase but that period has its own sets of complications. Chelsea’s current season has been underwhelming so far and this has prompted rumours that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois would leave the club for the greener pastures of Real Madrid.
Los Blancos might look for an upgrade on Keylor Navas too and as the pursuit of David de Gea has yielded no viable results yet, Courtois might turn out to be the man for them. The backup for Courtois is Willy Caballero and he might not be the man to guard the sticks for a complete season next time around.
Courtois has built a huge legacy with his stupendous performances off late and finding an upgrade on the Belgian would be an extremely difficult task. However, according to reports, Chelsea always have an alternative ready.
Donarumma- The next Gigi:
The Italian national team was blessed with the safest pair of hands for a long time before Gigi Buffon started his natural decline. Though the veteran has slowed down, he still has the ability to keep the most dangerous of strikers look pedestrian on his day. However, even before Buffon completely steps down, the team already has a young and immensely talented Gigi Donnarumma on the sidelines.
For AC Milan though, Donnarumma has been the poster boy for their limited success since the last few years. Donnarumma is a technically adept goalkeeper and is very good with his feet. At such a young age, he exudes unparalleled confidence and has a commanding presence inside the box. Gigi is comfortable while dealing with crosses and arranges the team extremely well during set pieces. He is not afraid to make his frustration known to his teammates and is always ready to bark orders during free-kicks if anyone commits a positional error.
Such authority and confidence is absent in young goalkeepers these days as many shot-stoppers buckle down under the amount of pressure exerted on them. Moreover, apart from these skills, Donnarumma is an excellent shot-stopper blessed with some quick reflexes.
Would Chelsea make a move?
Chelsea’s inadequacy and inactivity in the recent transfer windows surprising was the club hardly has any financial limitations to deal with. Buying Ginaluigi Donnarummacwould cost a fortune but it would be worth every single penny spent.
It seems that buying him would already provide them with an equivalent to Courtois and the club can reinvest the money they would get by selling the Belgian into buying the Italian goalkeeper. Mino Raiola (Donnarumma’s agent) has strained his relationship with AC Milan and would certainly search for a lucrative move away for his client too.
