Aston Villa Player Ratings From Their Magnificent 4-1 Win Over Wolverhampton Wanderers

Aston Villa swamped Championship league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today at the Villa Park as Steve Bruce’s men mustered a 4-1 win to bag all three points. Albert Adomah gave an early lead to the Villans, which was cancelled by Diogo Jota.

However, Bruce’s men seemed hungrier and goals came from James Chester, Lewis Grabban and Birkir Bjarnason in the second-half took the game away from Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Here is how we rated Bruce’s side from their sensational win over the league leaders.

Sam Johnstone 7/10

The custodian could have done better to deal with Matt Doherty’s cross for Wolves’ leveller in the first-half but apart from that, he looked reliable, solid and confident between the sticks.

Ahmed Elmohamady 6/10

Elmohamady was tasked with the duty of keeping Diogo Jota silent and he managed to do that pretty well. However, he could have offered more offensively.

James Chester 8/10

The centre-back worked well with John Terry and showcased his resilience time and again. He was smart in dealing with Wolves’ attacking movement and read the game really well. He scored his side’s second goal of the game.

John Terry 7/10

The former Chelsea skipper made some smart interceptions and marshalled the backline pretty well.

Neil Taylor 6/10

Taylor looked timorous at times while dealing with Doherty and Ivan Cavaleiro, but he found his feet as the game progressed.

Robert Snodgrass 7/10

The West Ham United loanee might not have been at his usual best but he was a serious threat during Aston Villa’s counter-attacks and notched an assist.

Mile Jedinak 7/10

Jedinak kept things neat and tidy and dictated the tempo of the game from the middle of the park.

Conor Hourihane 6/10

Although Bruce must have expected much more than just work-ethic from Hourihane, it was really appealing to see him trying his bit to cater to his side’s offensive as well as defensive needs.

Albert Adomah 8/10

Adomah scored a goal and bagged an assist in what was an excellent day at the office for him. His crosses were excellent.

Jack Grealish 8/10

He was smart and one of the brightest players on the pitch for the Lions. His attacking prowess in the final third was quite evident.

Lewis Grabban 7/10

Grabban is proving to be a really good piece of business by Aston Villa. The striker held the ball well up front, linked up with his teammates and bagged a goal and an assist.

Substitutions

Birkir Bjarnason 7/10

The midfielder scored a goal after he was brought on for Adomah with 15 minutes left to play.

Henri Lansbury 6/10

Lansbury added some freshness late in the second-half after Hourihane was subbed off.

Scott Hogan NA

He replaced Grabban with just 5 minutes left and hardly had the time to make an impact.
