This game had more plot twists than the ending sequence of Inception.
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool played out an exhilarating draw at Anfield in a game, which saw the arrival of Lionel Messi in England (or what was that Mo Salah?), some debatable refereeing decisions and the 100th Premier League goal for Harry Kane, points were shared between the two teams. When Liverpool were leading by a goal, it took numerous defensive blunders by them to hand the Spurs the opportunity to bag two goals.
Here we rate the Lilywhites from the game at Anfield:
Goals: Mo Salah 3’; 91’, Victor Wanyama 80’, Harry Kane 95’ (pen)
Hugo Lloris: 6/10
Lloris commanded the box well at times but should have stayed on his feet during Mo Salah’s second goal.
Kieran Trippier: 6/10
Trippier was pegged back by Mane’s pace in the first half. However, in the second half, Trippier started to push forward and reduced Mane’s influence.
Davinson Sanchez: 5/10
Sanchez was bullied off the ball by Sadio Mane on some occasions and his aerial clearances were sloppy as well.
Jan Vertonghen: 6/10
Vertonghen was more composed than Sanchez though he was guilty of letting the Liverpool forwards get behind at times. Made some good passes between the lines.
Ben Davies: 7/10
A constant presence in the other half, Davies was crucial in the build-up to the first goal. His crosses could have been better but he did his best to influence the attacking moves.
Eric Dier: 4/10
A below par performance as Dier was at times way too slow to react at the centre of the park.
Mousa Dembele: 6/10
Dembele tried his best to win the midfield battle but was let down by Dier’s inactiveness. The Belgian tried to drive the team ahead but was subbed of eventually for goal-scorer Victor Wanyama.
Christian Eriksen: 7/10
Eriksen led Tottenham’s attack in the second half by running down the channels, bringing the ball forward, picking out accurate passes and sending in some tempting crosses into the box.
Dele Alli: 7/10
Dele Alli played in between the lines and got into the spaces to terrify Liverpool’s defence in the final quarter. His one-touch, passing football proved to be difficult for Liverpool to handle.
Son Heung-Min: 7/10
Similar to Eriksen, Son was a constant figure in the attacking third. He won the ball back and tried to release Kane on some occasions but was not aptly rewarded for his efforts.
Harry Kane: 6/10
Up until the final penalty, Harry Kane had cut a lowly figure on the field. However, he showed some amazing composure to take a penalty, even after missing one just minutes ago, to score his 100th Premier League goal in front of the Kop. Class.
Substitutes:
Victor Wanyama: 9/10
Superb cameo. Amazing strike to restore parity as his technique from the long range to place the ball at the top of the net got Spurs back into the match.
Erik Lamela: 7/10
Lamela tried to churn out a decisive pass with his tenacity during his 25 minutes on the pitch. Showed cleverness by winning a penalty.
Fernando Llorente: N.A
Was brought on for Son in the final minutes of the game.
