According to reports, Bordeaux starlet Malcom has revealed that he will leave the club at the end of the season. The Brazilian attacking sensation was very close to completing a move to North London last month but was told by the club president that he would stay put.
The 20-year-old has been one of the rising stars in the Ligue 1 this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in all competitions.
As the stats show, Malcom has performed exceptionally well, which has attracted the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham.
Tottenham, in particular, have been known to be a huge admirer of the Brazilian starlet, who is destined for a move to the Premier League in this upcoming summer transfer window.
Spurs, despite having recently signed PSG star Lucas Moura in the January transfer window, will be desperate to strengthen their attacking unit, especially with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane hugely linked with a move to a bigger club this summer.
While Dele Alli and Harry Kane have been too good for Spurs in recent seasons, Argentinian attacker Erik Lamela has suffered from frequent injuries, which has marred his progress in the Premier League. In addition, Moussa Sissoko has only proved to be a fringe player at Spurs, following his deadline day move from Newcastle in 2016.
Therefore, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will welcome a move for Malcom this summer. The Brazilian has already shown what he is capable of in the French top flight and considering his style of play, he shouldn’t have too many difficulties in getting used to the Premier League, much like his compatriot Richarlison, who is hitting the hay at Watford this season.
Hugely known for his ability to drift past opposing defenders at ease, Malcom is someone who is capable of making an instant impact in the game. His dynamism and pace in the final third make him a handful for the opposition while his ability to play across any position in the final third is what makes him a unique component in the attacking department.
While he may lack the defensive skill and the tactical nous necessary to thrive under Pochettino’s playing system, his tenacity and flair will lend Spurs an extra edge in the final third. His contractual obligations run till 2021, but it will be interesting to see how his transfer saga takes shape this summer.
