The transfer window might have ended but the repercussions of the transfer business there to be seen. While quite a few cubs will be affected by the departure of their star players, Leicester City are in a different situation. After Riyad Mahrez’s proposed move to Manchester City didn’t transpire, the Algerian was supposedly unhappy and hasn’t made the last two matchday squads.
However, a move come summer might materialise as City are likely to return if reports are to be believed. Considering the quality he possesses, the bigger teams will always come looking for him.
While Leicester have done a good job keeping hold of him, they’ll have to identify replacements for the Algerian. One of the players could be Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Thorgan Hazard according to reports.
Thorgan Hazard – fact file
Granted, Eden Hazard is by far the best of the three Hazard brothers, but what Thorgan brings to the game is his consistency. The Belgian has scored seven and assisted four so far in the Bundesliga this season and has played a key role for the Foals. The side are just four points behind fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund and are still in contention for a Champions League spot.
What Hazard also brings to the table is his consistency; he can play on the left and right side of the midfield. His best performances have come when he has been deployed on the left, though, as he has mustered four goals and two assists from that position.
What will he offer Leicester?
Like Mahrez, the 24-year old is a fleet-footed attacker who can get past players using his dribbling ability. He also has a good burst of pace, so he’d be a threat on the counter and stretch defences. Claude Puel demands a lot of work rate from his players as the team keep their shape well when they don’t have the ball, that’s something Hazard is good at too.
Having played in a setup that combined pressing and counterattacking, Hazard could be a shrewd acquisition. While many presumed he’d fall off the radar after he didn’t make the first team at Chelsea, he has managed to develop pretty well at Borussia Park and perhaps the time is right to make a move to the Premier League and show Chelsea exactly what they are missing out on.
He is contracted till 2020, so Gladbach stand to make a good profit on the £7.20m fee they paid for his services back in 2015.
