Tottenham Hotspur have established themselves as one of the best destinations for youngsters in England. Mauricio Pochettino has done a great job, grooming some of the finest youngsters of the game in London and he reportedly has his eyes on yet another up and coming English star in James Maddison.
Transfer Story:
According to a report from The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are one of many clubs that are constantly scouting for the services of Norwich City ace James Maddison, who is in superb form this season in the Championship. Also wanted by Liverpool, Southampton and Wolves, the attacking midfielder is an integral part of the squad at Carrow Road and Norwich City are not ready to let him leave anytime soon.
The story claims that Maddison is expected to stay back at the club for the rest of the season but might look to move into the top flight, at the end of the campaign. So is he a player Pochettino should sign?
His Attributes And Style Of Play:
A product of the academy in his hometown, Coventry City, the 21-year old moved to Carrow Road back in 2016 and took no time to establish himself in the first team. He spent the entire previous season on loan at Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League, where he managed two goals in 14 appearances, also breaking into the England U21 side.
He returned to Norwich City as an established player and has been the first choice midfielder for the club, making 22 starts and picking up six goals and five assists this season. An attacking midfielder by trait, Maddison can also play a central role but is not effective with his tracking back.
However, his dribbling and passing are getting better by the week which only adds to his ability to influence games on his own now. He is also effective over a dead-ball and though he might have to improve his strength in the air and in hold up play, he is a player destined for success in the future.
Is Tottenham Hotspur His Best Destination?
The Argentine manager currently does not have too many backups who can match up to the productivity of the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. Heung Min-Son and Erik Lamela have done a decent job in this role but Spurs need another player, who can add that spark in the final third.
They might have to spend big to recruit someone of that quality but Pochettino, being the kind of a coach he is, seems happier grooming such a player and Maddison has all it takes to be a hit at Wembley.
At just 21, he is already making headlines in the Championship and belongs at the highest level. He might take time to establish himself in the first team under Pochettino but rest assured, he will be given enough chances to prove himself, making Spurs his best destination.
