Three Players Leeds United Should Look To Sign Including Experienced Newcastle United Man

Leeds United seem to be labouring through their matches lately and the need to freshen up is the call of the hour for them. Under the stewardship of Thomas Christiansen, they have managed to pick up 43 points from 27 games so far and are placed at the 7th spot in the league table.

They have collected merely 1 point from their last 3 league encounters and they need to buck up and fare in a better manner to make their long-awaited comeback in the Premier League. With the January transfer window still wide open, here are three players they can target to better their credentials.

1. Jack Colback

Newcastle United midfielder, Jack Colback, was linked with a move to Leeds United in December. Colback has been sidelined by Rafael Benitez ever since they got promoted and the Englishman might be looking for an exit from St. James’ Park to kickstart his career once more.

The 28-year-old has vast experience under his belt, having plied his trade for the likes of Sunderland and Ipswich Town, apart from Newcastle United of course and with Ronaldo Vieira out injured and Eunan O’Kane seeing a red card last weekend, he could be a decent signing for Christiansen’s side.

2. Chris Martin

Considering that summer signings, Jay-Roy Grot and Pierre-Michel Lasogga, have hardly lived up to the expectations, the Whites do need an addition to their attacking firepower. In a situation like this, Derby County hitman, Chris Martin, could be a breath of fresh air for Leeds United.

The 29-year-old has been sporadically used by the Rams this season, as he has been handed merely 5 starts in the Championship so far. Perhaps he needs some backing from the manager under whom he plays and might personally vouch for an exit this month. Leeds United should capitalize on any opportunity that arises and given that they are already reported to be in pursuit of signing Martin, it would make sense if they make it happen.

3. Kevin Mbabu

The Peacocks do need to inject more resilience to their backline as well and thus, Young Boys defender, Kevin Mbabu, should interest them. The 22-year-old is certainly making the most of his good form this season and has proved himself to be an ideal modern-day right-back.

Mbabu is strong in the air, doesn’t hesitate to join the attack up the field, passes the ball well and scores occasionally. He has made his presence felt in the Swiss Super League and given that he is still young, he will only get better in the coming seasons.
