As per one of the latest reports by Northern Echo, Newcastle United are believed to have lodged a loan offer to sign Liverpool’s attacker, Danny Ings. The Magpies are really keen to beef up the quality of their squad and Rafael Benitez seems to be quite clear of doing some business this month in order to ensure that he has the requisite personnel at his disposal for the second half of the season.
The Telegraph, however, has reported that Newcastle United might have to bite the dust as Ings is desirous to stay at the Anfield and push himself for the challenge of securing regular game time under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp but Benitez is apparently reluctant to accept defeat. Klopp has a plethora of stars on his books to meet his side’s offensive needs and thus, Ings’ chances look slim at this stroke of the hour.
Newcastle United might have managed to secure a 0-1 away win against Stoke City on Monday but they are still some way away from ensuring their survival in the Premier League beyond this season. They are currently placed at the 13th spot in the league table with 22 points from 22 games and considering that the animosity will increase manifold in the second half of the season, they certainly have to up the ante from here onwards.
Ings has had his share of injuries and has been afforded with merely 11 minutes of football in the English top division this season. The 25-year-old has truckloads of experience under his belt, having plied his trade with Bournemouth and Burnley and has shown his potential time and again, particularly during his spell with the Clarets. He is quite sharp up front and knows exactly where the goal is.
Besides, the Englishman is versatile enough and is capable of operating as a striker, as a left-winger as well as a secondary striker. The Toon have struggled to find the back of the net this season with Dwight Gayle and Joselu and thus, someone like Ings would be an ideal choice for them. Further, he offers a great degree of sharpness from open play as well.
Although he hasn’t been very much in the scheme of things for his club, he is still admired for his goal-scoring potential at the top level. Despite his resolution to stay with the Reds, Benitez must leave no stone unturned to secure a deal, for his move to St. James’ Park could be a galvanizing one for Newcastle United.
